summer, part 2

*blue skies were rare for a while. Major forest fires stretched over 2 provinces and the air was thick and grey- weather reports on the radio were often "smokey". Some days we were able to stare directly at the sun, which appeared as a huge glowing red ball in the sky. Photos just don't do any justice compared to seeing this strange beauty first-hand. The sun's reflection on the water was like dancing fire.  (see below)

summer days, week 1

 These photos were taken our first week at the cabin, back in July. Wish I could have posted them sooner and as they were taken, but a whole summer spent at a remote cabin meant no internet access or blog updates. Not that I am complaining- it was so good to get away from it all and enjoy life in it's most beautiful, natural form. There is absolutely nothing like having all the time in the world to spend with your loved ones.

The homestead belongs to Rob's family- they have had this land for over 100 years- and there is so much history everywhere you look. It is a 20 minute boat ride to get to the nearest road, which meant that the only form of "traffic" was the odd boat passing by, or an airplane flying overhead. No neighbors to speak of. The nearest town was another 20 minutes away by car.... so the city sounds we had grown accustomed to were replaced by songs of wildlife: ducks, loons, frogs, coyotes, etc.

We feel so grateful to have been able to spend the last few months living a dream.

After a wonderful summer at a remote cabin without electricity & internet, we're back! Oh little shop, how I've missed you. It is reasons like this I am happy to get back to the big city.

We said goodbye to our Gimli home last month and put almost everything we own into storage in preparation for our move to the cabin. For a few more weeks we will be living out of boxes at my mom & dad's, then at the end of June taking our long-awaited trip 8 hours north. I can't wait to get up there, plant our garden, be surrounded by nature and finally settle in. It is paradise.
